Coming up with a name of this simple, round, beginner kitty plushie pattern has been a challenge. It sat nameless for a long time with just “cat pattern” on the document. But as I kept referring to it as “Blob Cat” with my husband, it slowly started to stick. So here it is, the Blob Cat.

About a year ago, my dear friend’s daughter asked for a “pink glitter kitty.” I said I would make it, and then life got in the way. Now, some 13 months later, I finished her glitter kitty. And I knew from the get-go it would be a new pattern for the blog — but I had no idea that I would also use it as a jumping-off point for some cool color changes and fun tutorials in the process.

Blob Cat free crochet pattern video tutorial, with color changes for a calico kitty! Great pattern for an amigurumi beginner!

The Blob Cat video tutorial features techniques for changing colors on a white background so that your color doesn’t show through. It also shows how to untwist your working yarn when using multiple colors. Both are simple techniques, but they can take your amigurumi game up a notch.

In spite of these cool features, this pattern is perfect for an amigurumi beginner. You need to know how to start out in the round (though I walk you through that too), and how to work a dc. However, all of these things are included in the video.

If you can sc and dc, you can follow along on this video for your first amigurumi.

Video Tutorial

Techniques used in this video include the Invisible Decrease and Jogless Join.

This pattern can also be purchased as a Premium Pattern for only $3.00 (printable, ad-free, downloadable .pdf file) HERE.  It can also be found on Etsy or Ravelry.
