The Corkscrew Gnome Bottle Topper is a whimsical way to add a little holiday cheer to your bar decor. I love decorating with wine bottles, so making them more festive (and more magical) is always in mind.

Construction

The Corkscrew Gnome Bottle Topper is a fun, fast pattern. It is a great pattern to stretch your abilities as a crochet artist, especially if you are fairly new to amigurumi.

His hat is one long skinny tube, which can seem frustrating, but give these tips a try to make it much easier.

Hint: If you count the point of his hat as 162 stitches worked evenly around the tube instead of 27 rounds of 6 stitches each, you don’t have to track the beginning of each round. 🙂

The hat is curled with a wire.

The beard is made of my favorite loop stitches.

There again, don’t be intimidated by the loop stitch. It has a great rhythm to it when you get going. And I have a detailed video tutorial (right and left handed) to help you out.

I also have one on how to brush out that beard to it’s fluffiest.

Why Gnomes?

Gnomes (also called “gonks“) are a popular Scandinavian Christmas decoration, and they are hitting the US big time this year.

The fantasy-lover in me is totally stoked to see gnomes EVERYWHERE this season! The theme of “Gnome for the Holidays” is one of my favorites.

And I just adore gnomes! I’ve been playing a gnome mage in World of Warcraft since 2005.

*stuffs down nerdiness*

Also gnome-themed at Hooked by Kati is the Santa Gonk free crochet pattern.

It is a huge honor to write for this awesome blogger, and I hope you also take some time to scope out her site. One of my favorite things at Oombawka Design Crochet is the Crochet Translation Project. This way, we can all crochet patterns in a variety of languages!
