Transform your space with this free dragon wing pillow crochet pattern, perfect for fantasy lovers and crochet enthusiasts alike. This unique pillow design brings a touch of mythical charm to any room, making it an ideal project for adding a whimsical accent to your decor. Easy to follow and fun to create, this dragon wing pillow pattern is the perfect way to showcase your crochet skills while crafting a cozy, magical home accessory.

This pillow goes perfectly with the Dragon Eye Pillow, my second-best selling pattern of all time. I wanted to add to the dragon home decor collection, and since I was working on the wings of another cool dragon wing pattern, I redid the math to create smaller wings that would cover a pillow.

These wings are so fun to crochet, and they work up quickly once you catch on to the repeats.

By itself or displayed with a Dragon Eye Pillow and Dragon Claw Pillow, this project looks awesome on any sofa. Who needs an occasion to decorate with dragons? They make the perfect accessory!

Construction

The pillow base is made using the suzette stitch. It’s repetitive and relaxing, and doesn’t require very much counting after the first two rows.

The wings themselves are made in mostly one piece; the only parts you will sew are the claws on the tips of each wing bone. The shape comes entirely from short rows. You will basically make large triangles out of short row steps, then work down the steps to smooth the edge.

Stuff claw to color change.

Bind off leaving long tail for sewing.

Press the last round of the claw flat with the new position of the sewing tail on one end. The Claw will curve parallel to the new flattened edge. Dcs will be centered over each of the flat sides of the Claw.

Align Claw in the crescent on the top corner of the Wing, curve of the claw pointed down. Using sewing tail, sew 12 sts through both layers of last round of Claw and the end of each of the 12 rows in the crescent of the Wing.

Attach Wings To Pillow

On one of the Pillow sides, align wings as follows:

Wings will sit with the Claws peeking above the top corners of the Pillow, curving down. The exposed horizontal bar of the hdc rows of each wing will be facing out. The thick side of each Wing will be horizontal, along the top edge of the Pillow. The thin edge of each Wing will be vertical along the side edge of the Pillow, flairing out beyond the edge.

Using a scrap of WINE, sew the top and side of each Wing to the edges of the Pillow where they touch.

Thick edge: Sew bottom wing directly to edge of Pillow. Sew top wing along edge of pillow and on the front edge of the attached bottom wing. This allows the top wing to lay flat without curving over the top edge of the pillow.

Thin edge: Attach thin side only as far down on the Pillow as it is touching the pillow edge then let the remainder of the wing spread out beyond the pillow edge.

Pillow Assembly

Pin unworked pillow base to WS of first pillow base. Using a long strand of WINE, sc through both layers of edges on three sides, leaving bottom edge of the pillow open. Insert pillow form. Sc bottom edge to close.

Weave in all ends.
