Halloween!
It’s time to meet Roderick the Skeleton Dragonling!
Roderick really love pumpkins… as a dragon, he was drawn to hoard something, and he chose pumpkins!
But, as some young dragons often do, he has lost them. 🙁
Help Roderick find his missing jack-o-lantern pumpkins so he can enjoy the Halloween season with spooky gusto!
The hunt will run for 2 weeks, from Wednesday September 2nd to Wednesday, September 16th at midnight.
Over the first seven days of this treasure hunt (Wednesday-Tuesday), a new pumpkin will be released each day. Each pumpkin is hidden somewhere on the blog, waiting to be discovered. Find the hidden jack-o-lantern for the day, click it, and you’ll unlock a piece of the new Halloween pattern, Roderick the Skeleton Dragonling.
Together, we will build this little fellow, one section at a time. Each day you will get another piece to make your very own Roderick and his glorious pumpkin.
Think of it as a treasure hunt with a crochet-a-long twist.
Once a jack-o-lantern appears, it stays available for the rest of the hunt, so you can join late, catch up, or search at your own pace.

How the Hunt Works
- The hunt runs for 14 days.
- A new pumpkin unlocks each day for the first seven days
- Pumpkins will each have a different jack-o-lantern face.
- Each pumpkin is hidden on a different blog post or within a YouTube video (or its description).
- You will get a hint on this page each day.
- Finding the pumpkin of the day takes you to a success page where you’ll:
- Read and follow that day’s piece of the Roderick the Skeleton Dragonling pattern before the pages disappear on September 16th.
- Collect one secret letter
Collect all seven letters and, at the end of the hunt, you’ll be able to unlock the complete Premium PDF of Roderick the Skeleton Dragonling — FOR FREE!

Q: What exactly am I looking for?
A: Little jack-o-lantern pumpkins.
Each day, a hidden pumpkin appears somewhere on the website or the YouTube channel. You will be given a clue on this main page every day to guide you. It will be small and challenging to find, but that’s the fun of the hunt! When you find the hidden image and click it, you’ll be taken to a success page where you can unlock that day’s step in the pattern and collect a secret letter.
Q: Where should I look for these pumpkins?
A: On any of the “posts” on the hookedbykati.com website.
Pumpkins could be hidden in free pattern post, on articles, on posts for video tutorials or anything else! Use the clue for each day to get you started, then either use the search bar to put in words from the clue or use the navigation to look around the site for where you think they might be.
You might not find it on the first page you look, so keep looking! Scroll slowly, let things load, and keep your eyes peeled for pumpkins!
Q: Do I have to participate every single day?
A: Nope!
A new pumpkin is released each day for the first seven days, but once a pumpkin appears, it stays hidden on the blog until the hunt ends. You can join late, skip days, or catch up all at once. However, your coupon code of secret letters will work as early as Day 7, so if you hunt on the first seven days, you can get your Premium Pattern faster!
Q:How long does the treasure hunt last?
A: 14 days.
The crochet-a-long portion of the hunt spans the first seven days, followed by a catch-up period so everyone has time to search. If you don’t want to hunt, the Premium Pattern will be available for the entire hunt (and after)!
You will be able to access the success pages (with the pieces of the free pattern on them) for the whole 14 days. However, the free versions will disappear at the end of the hunt. If you want PDFs for free to download, you will need to find all 7 gems to get your coupon code made of secret letters, or you purchase the Premium Pattern without hunting at any time.
Q: What do I get when I find a pumpkin?
A: A piece of the free Roderick the Skeleton Dragonling pattern.

Q: What if I only find some of the pumpkins?
A: You’ll still be able to follows the steps that correspond with the pumpkins you find during the hunt. You will need to find all 7 gems to be able to view the whole free Roderick the Pumpkin Dragon pattern.
To unlock the free Premium PDF, all seven secret letters are required.
Q: Is this beginner-friendly?
A: The Roderick the Skeleton Dragonling pattern is not a beginner pattern, but it can be done by an artist early in their crochet adventure.
The pattern includes some short rounds to shape the curve of his body, plus a few goofy stitches to create those bones. If you feel intimidated, the Premium Pattern PDF has pictures to guide you through it.
