Halloween Binge-Worthy TV and Movies for Crocheting

It’s no secret that I LOVE to watch TV while I crochet. Many of my patterns are named after characters in the show I was watching while they came together! For example, Vincent the Dragon is named after my favorite intern on “Bones” and Monroe the Wolpertinger after my favorite werewolf in “Grimm.”

So what am I watching this time of year? This year, I’m rewatching “Fall of the House Of Usher” on Netflix. It’s dark and scary, and full of great Edgar Allen Poe references for the EAP superfans.

I’ve thrown together a list of binge-worthy Halloween movies and TV shows that are great to watch while you crochet. Some of these are funny, some scary, some just brilliant works of art.

I couldn’t help but put stars next to my faves. 🙂

Enjoy!

Halloween Shows

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (1997-2003)
Classic supernatural adventures with plenty of action and wit, but it’s still easy to follow while crafting.

“What We Do in the Shadows” (2019-present)
A HILARIOUS mockumentary about vampire roommates. Easy to follow and filled with great one-liners that won’t distract too much from your crafting (except when you need to laugh!).

*”The Fall of the House of Usher” (2023)

A modern gothic horror series inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s works, featuring a wealthy family plagued by dark secrets and supernatural forces. The moody atmosphere and eerie storytelling make it a chilling choice for a darker Halloween vibe.

“Stranger Things” (2016-present)
An 80s nostalgia-filled show with supernatural thrills. The plot can be intense but it has enough downtime to enjoy while crocheting.

“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” (2018-2020)
A much darker take on the classic Sabrina story, filled with magic, witches, and Halloween vibes. It has a spooky, atmospheric feel, but not too fast-paced.

***”Supernatural” (2005-2020)
Follow my FAVORITE two brothers as they hunt monsters, demons, and ghosts. The monster-of-the-week format makes it easy to follow, and it’s packed with paranormal elements that suit Halloween.

“Penny Dreadful” (2014-2016)
A gothic horror series that brings together iconic monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein’s creature, and werewolves. It has a dark, slow-burn storytelling style, making it good for multitasking.

*”The Haunting of Hill House” (2018)
A beautifully crafted ghost story with strong emotional beats. It’s spooky, but the slower pace of the storytelling works for crafting while watching.

“Grimm” (2011-2017)
A detective procedural with a supernatural twist, featuring creatures inspired by Grimm fairy tales. It has a monster-of-the-week format that’s great for casual watching.

*”Locke & Key” (2020-2022)
A fantasy-horror series about a family that moves into a mysterious house with magical keys. It’s spooky with adventure elements, and just down-right enjoyable.

“The Witcher” (2019-present)
A dark fantasy series filled with magic, monsters, and adventure. It has a rich, detailed world, but the episodic quests make it easy to follow casually.

“Sleepy Hollow” (2013-2017)
A supernatural drama based on Washington Irving’s Legend of Sleepy Hollow, mixing modern-day crime-solving with spooky historical elements.

Movies

I didn’t include all of the classic “slasher” films because nothing messes up crochet quite like a jump scare. But here are a few more light-hearted movies that will keep you in the Halloween spirit.

“Hocus Pocus” (1993)
A Halloween favorite with a playful tone, witches, and a fun story. It’s a classic that’s great to watch while crocheting.

“Beetlejuice” (1988)
Tim Burton’s quirky and dark comedy about a couple haunting their house. It’s light enough to have on in the background.

*”The Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993)
A visually stunning animated movie perfect for Halloween or Christmas. The music and imagery are delightful.

“Casper” (1995)
A lighthearted family movie about a friendly ghost. It’s nostalgic and easy to watch.

“Practical Magic” (1998)
A witchy romance with a cozy feel, this movie mixes magic, family, and love, perfect for a chilled crafting night.

*”Frankenweenie” (2012)

A black-and-white animated film with a touch of Burton’s signature quirky style and heartwarming moments. One of those films I find few people have discovered, but those who have love it.

“ParaNorman” (2012)
An animated film about a boy who can see ghosts, blending spooky elements with a heartwarming story.

“The Witches” (1990)
Based on Roald Dahl’s book, this darkly humorous movie about witches is spooky without being too intense.

“Coraline” (2009)

A stop-motion animated film with a spooky, whimsical atmosphere that’s not too intense for a craft session.

“Ghostbusters” (1984)
A comedic classic with ghosts and paranormal elements that’s light enough to follow while you work. (And of course, Ghostbusters II)

“Edward Scissorhands” (1990)
Another Tim Burton classic that’s visually stunning and sweet, with just a touch of Halloween vibes.
