Free Horns Crochet Pattern | Mods for Vincent the Dragon Amigurumi
This free crochet pattern includes FOUR new sets of horns made to add on to your Vincent the Dragon pattern. Curly horns, ram horns, pronged horns, and facial frills will let you personalize your next dragon amigurumi.
In 2025, the idea was offered up in our awesome Facebook Group to add more horn options for Vincent. This collection is all about making your next Vincent the Dragon pattern even more unique and personal to you as an artist. Add any of these horns (or heck, a combination of them!) will help personalize your next dragon amigurumi project.
All of these patterns are for intermediate to advanced crocheters, but if you can make Vincent, you can make his horns! Instructions are included here for:
- Spiral horns
- Ram-style horns
- Two-Pronged horns
- Facial Frills (like on a sea dragon)
They work up fast — less than 30 minutes per horn. And they can be added after the fact or built right into your Vincent the Dragon construction in place of the original horns that come with the Vincent pattern.

How To Crochet Your Dragon Horns
- These horns use a few different techniques to give you curves, twists, ridges, and branches.
- Ram horns are made with a classic short rounds curve.
- Spiral horns also use short rounds, but are staggered to make them curl.
- Pronged horns use merging to make each point and combine them together.
- Facial Frills use a method of folding the work to create ridges.

Before You Start This Pattern
This pattern is written for intermediate crocheters. Basic amigurumi skills like working in the round, increasing, decreasing, and sewing pieces together will be helpful.
Worsted weight acrylic or cotton yarn works best for most amigurumi patterns. Using a smaller hook than recommended will help create tight stitches with fewer gaps.
Use a hook smaller than the yarn label suggests and keep your stitches tight. This helps prevent stuffing from showing through the fabric.
If the finished project is intended for small children, consider embroidering the eyes instead of using safety eyes, and make sure all pieces are securely attached.
Lost Horns Of Vincent | Free Crochet Pattern
Pattern is written in English, in US terms, using Craft Yarn Council abbreviations.
You Need to Know
Chains (ch), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), back loops only (BLO), front loops only (FLO), Right side (RS), Wrong side (WS), increases (inc) and decreases (dec), mattress stitch sewing. Be eager to learn and ready to have fun!

- G (4.00 mm) hook

Pattern Notes
- Work in continuous rounds. Do not slip stitch unless otherwise specified by the pattern.
- Weave in attachment ends at very end of project in case pieces require repositioning.
- Rounds labeled “Short round” are worked back and forth and will end before the round is complete, leaving stitches deliberately unworked to be worked in later rounds as instructed.
- When instructed, an additional sc(s) will be added at the end of a round to move the starting stitch of the next round to the left (clockwise). This does not change the stitch count of the round. It only moves the starting point.
- On Two-Prong Horn, Small Prong is attached using merging, working all the way around the outside of both tubes to create one large round from their total stitches. For best results, leave the sewing tail from the Small Prong on the outside of the work to use for sewing later.

Attachment Options for Ram Horn
Align horns as desired. For horning hanging off the side, angle the curls to either side. For more upright horns, position them far enough back on the head that they hang off the back over the neck. You could even position the horns to curve off to the sides at a 90° angle to the head. Get creative and try many possibilities before you settle on a position.
Using colored pins, mark a 4 x 4 square on the head of the dragon where you want your horns. Place corresponding colored pins in the horn to mark their positioning. Using tail on horn, sew horns to head.

Align horns as desired. Two-Prong Horns are designs to arc off the back of the head, attached in a narrow rectangle along the head. The best placement will be right on top of the head near the attachment point of Vincent’s original horns.
Using colored pins, mark a 6 x 3 rectangle on the head of the dragon where you want your horns. Place corresponding colored pins in the horn to mark their positioning. Using tail on horn, sew horns to head.

With Body Color of Dragon, ch 5.

Attachment Options for Facial Frills
Align frills in a vertical straight on either side of the head, ridges facing forward, largest end of the frills facing up. Get creative and try many possibilities before you settle on a position.
Using pins, mark a 9-st long line on the head of the dragon where you want your facial frills. Place corresponding colored pins in the frills to mark their positioning. Using tail on frills, sew frills to head.

A: Yes! This is a free crochet pattern you can use directly on the blog. It includes all instructions needed to complete the project without purchasing the PDF.
I think of my free crochet patterns a bit like a fun-size candy bar—same great ingredients, just a smaller experience. They’re complete patterns meant to be followed right from the blog, but they also give you a chance to see whether my pattern-writing style works for the way you crochet before investing in one of my premium designs.

A: This pattern is written for advanced crocheters. It may not be the best pattern for a beginner. However, it is a great pattern for those who are just getting into amigurumi shaping and would like to see what crochet can really do when you apply the right techniques.
A: Yes, you can change the size by using a different yarn weight and hook size. I have a great post all about this called “Making Ami Bigger Without Changing the Pattern.” Keep in mind that this may also change the proportions slightly, so check your gauge, and make sure it creates a square swatch.
