Free No-Sew Dragon Crochet Pattern – Nogard | Easy Amigurumi
This free crochet pattern includes directions to make a small, no-sew dragon amigurumi. It is a great pattern for beginners or crocheters looking for a quick, easy project.
This little Roly-Poly no-sew critter is Nogard the Dragon. (Did you notice it’s “dragon” spelled backwards?) First featured in a summer Treasure Hunt, Nogard has already been made by many people, and is also selling well at craft fairs! He also looks pretty amazing in bulky yarn! SO SQUISHY!
I try to make a few of these Roly Poly critters every year because they are so adorable and fun to create. And who doesn’t love a no-sew amigurumi? There is absolutely no sewing on this project, meaning it is great for beginners who are ready to learn a few new things, or an experienced crocheter looking for a fast and enjoyable crochet project. Crank this guy out in an evening, or several over a weekend!

How To Crochet Your Dragon
- This is a no-sew pattern! That means all the pieces are attached to the body while you make the body. There will be no ends to weave in!
- Bobble stitches provide the dragon with nostrils, back spines, and tail texture.
- The wings use small picot stitches

Before You Start This Pattern
This pattern is written for confident beginners or experienced crocheters looking for a fast project. Basic amigurumi skills like working in the round, increasing, decreasing, and sewing pieces together will be helpful.
Worsted weight acrylic or cotton yarn works best for most amigurumi patterns. Using a smaller hook than recommended will help create tight stitches with fewer gaps.
Use a hook smaller than the yarn label suggests and keep your stitches tight. This helps prevent stuffing from showing through the fabric.
If the finished project is intended for small children, consider embroidering the eyes instead of using safety eyes, and make sure all pieces are securely attached.

You Will Practice Easy Techniques
Supplies
- Big Twist Vortex yarn, 100% acrylic, worsted weight, 329 yds/5.29 oz/150 g, Northern Lights (NORTH) or Rosebrush.
- Big Twist Value yarn, 100% acrylic, worsted weight, 380 yds/6 oz/170 g, Cream (CRM), 1 ball; Black (BLK), < 1 ball.
- F (3.75 mm) Furls hook
- Two 12 mm black safety eyes
- Polyfil stuffing
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers (optional)
Measurements
6” tall x 6” in diameter
Gauge
9 sts x 9 rows in sc = 2” x 2”
Pattern Notes
- Some parts are easier to see in the Rosebrush colorway. As a result, the instructions call for Northern Lights (NORTH), but the images may be in Rosebrush (a red tone of the same yarn.)
- Work in continuous rounds. Do not slip stitch unless otherwise specified by the pattern.
- When instructed, an additional sc(s) will be added at the end of a round to move the starting stitch of the next round to the left (clockwise). This does not change the stitch count of the round. It only moves the starting point.
Special Stitches
- Bobble-st – Bobble stitch: [Yo, insert hook into st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook] 5 times in same st, yo, pull through all 6 loops on hook.
- Picot – Picot: Ch 2, sl st in 2nd ch from hook.

Finishing
With a strand of BLK, sew 4 horizontal lines on the belly, starting at Rnd 16 (front legs), centered between the legs. Each line should be 8 sts long, placed 2 rnds apart.
