Scarf

(Make 2)

With SKY, ch 14.

Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from the hook (ch-3 counts as a dc), 10 dc, turn. (12)

Row 2: Change to SAP, ch 3, [skip 2, 2dc between the next 2 sts] 5 times, skip 1, dc in last st, turn. (12)

Row 3: Change to NAVY, ch 3, [skip 2, 2dc between the next 2 sts] 5 times, skip 1, dc in top of ch-3, turn. (12)

Repeat Row 3 six more times, changing colors for each row in order, SKY, SAP, NAVY.

Weave in all ends.

Cut eight 6-inch strands of each color. Choose two different colors at random, fringe thread (see Special Stitches) through every other stitch in the last row of one scarf piece and every other chain in the starting chain of the other scarf piece. This gives the illusion of the pattern continuing for the length of a scarf around the Dragon’s neck.

After all fringe is threaded, cut to about 1.5 inches long.

When attaching to the wreath, use T pins to pin each scarf under the chin of the Dragon Wreath, each at an angle so they overlap in the middle.

Hot Cocoa

With CHOC, ch 2.

Rnd 1: 8 sc in second ch from hook. (8)

Rnd 2: Inc in each st around. (16)

Rnd 3: [Sc, inc, change to WHT, bobble-st (see Special Stitches), change to CHOC, inc] twice, [sc, inc] twice, change to WHT, bobble-st, change the CHOC, inc, sc, inc. (24 total, 3 bobbles)

Rnd 4: [2 sc, inc] 8 times. (32)

Rnd 5: Change to RUST, working in FLO, sc evenly around. (32)

Rnd 6-7: Working in both loops, sc evenly around.

Rnd 8: Fold row away from you. Working through next st and exposed back loop of Rnd 4, sc evenly around. (32)

Rnds 9-17: Sc evenly around.

Rnd 18: [2 sc, dec] 8 times. (24)

Stuff.

Rnd 19: [Sc, dec] 8 times. (16)

Rnd 20: Dec 8 times. (8)

Cut yarn. Thread needle through front loops of remaining 8 stitches. Pull tight to close. Leave long tail for sewing.

Mug Handle

With RUST, ch 2.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6)

Rnds 2-12: Sc evenly around.

Bind off leaving long tail for sewing.

Press flat.

Using pins, mark a line 3 sts long anywhere in Rnd 9 and another line 3 sts long in Rnd 16, straight down from the first.

Using sewing tail, sewing through flattened last Rnd, sew Handle along first marked line. Thread tail through mug to second marked line and sew the other end of the Handle along the second line. Weave in ends.

Attachment Options For All Flair Designs

To be able to change out your Dragon Wreath Flair, you will need a way to temporarily attach the parts. There are several options, so choose the one that works best for you.

T Pins

Using T-shaped pins to attach parts is great for round embellishments or any pieces that need to be attached around the foam part of the wreath.

For large round pieces (Easter eggs, hot cocoa mug, etc.), use 2-3 to be more secure.

If possible, stick the pin directly into the foam of the wreath. This is the fastest and cleanest method to attach parts.

Safety Pins

Using safety pins is slightly more secure than T pins because they can be locked in place. They also work well on all parts of the wreath, including the tail and wings.

Be sure to pin through both the Flair and the Wreath, and on the backside of the work.

This method is more tricky and can leave gaps between the Flair and wreath if the pins are not tight enough.

Temporary Whip Stitch

This is my favorite method for attaching parts. It is secure and you can adjust the fit of the parts if desired (like the tail embellishments).

Using a matching strand of yarn, sew the Flair to the Wreath, skipping at least 3 stitches and not pulling too tightly. You should sew no more than 6-8 stitches per attachment.

Leave a long starting tail. Sew in a circle and come back around to the starting tail. Thread both tails out of the same stitch. Tie the tails in a bow that can easily be removed. Cut ends short enough they don’t show behind the wreath.

When you are ready to change your Dragon Wreath Flair for the next holiday, untie your bow and use your finger or a blunt end of a tapestry needle to remove stitches one at a time.

I also have a video for this method on the YouTube channel.
