Zeke the Land Shark | Free Crochet Pattern
Looking for a quirky and adorable crochet project? This crochet land shark pattern (or puppy shark amigurumi pattern) is the perfect mix of cute and fierce! Whether you’re a fan of sharks, love unique amigurumi designs, or want a fun handmade gift, this pattern brings a land-dwelling twist to the ocean’s favorite predator. With easy-to-follow instructions, you’ll create a charming little shark that’s ready to prowl on land instead of the sea.
After recently bringing home a new puppy, I was strongly reminded how… pointy… a puppy is in their first few months. We lovingly refer to our teething terrier as our “land shark” or sometimes “puppy shark.”
Add to that the introduction of Jeff the Land Shark to a recent video game, and I became incredibly inspired to create a plush (much less pointy) land shark.
A land shark makes a great pet! They are excellent guard fish, and enjoy a good belly scratch. This amigurumi makes a great gift for all geeks, especially those who love old Marvel comics or are playing Marvel Rivals. I would think a land shark would make a fine D & D familiar as well! Very loyal, very chompy.
Construction
Construction on Zeke the Land Shark is really fun, but it can be a challenge if you are new to amigurumi. Trust the pattern! There are places you will have short rounds (unfinished rows to work later), odd counts, and some very interesting shapes, but this pattern has been tested by some of the best ami artists in the community, and I’ve done my very best to make it crystal clear for you.
The whole thing starts at the center of the mouth, and the teeth are integrated right into the work. You won’t have to worry about sewing them in or keeping them straight. The head and body are all one piece, and you will sew on the tongue, fins, legs, and belly patch.
I’ve taken extensive photos for the Premium Pattern 2.0. The photos are especially nice to have for stitch placements for the short rounds on the nose and forehead. And they are vital for leg attachments, so I would highly recommend upgrading your artistic experience with the Premium Pattern.

Pattern Notes
- Work in continuous rounds. Do not slip stitch unless otherwise specified by the pattern.
- Work using standard yarn over method; yarn under could distort shaping.
- For best results, assemble parts in order as directed.
- Weave in attachment ends at very end of project in case pieces require repositioning.
- Rounds labeled “Short round” are worked back and forth and will end before the round is complete, leaving stitches deliberately unworked to be worked in later rounds as instructed.
- When instructed, an additional sc(s) will be added at the end of a round to move the starting stitch of the next round to the left (clockwise). This does not change the stitch count of the round. It only moves the starting point.
Special Stitches
- Sm-Picot – Small Picot: Ch 2, sl st in 2nd ch from hook.
- Dc5tog – Double crochet 5 together – [Yo, insert hook through next st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook] 5 times, yo, pull through all 6 loops on the hook.

Rnd 23: Fold work back so it touches the exposed Back Loops of Rnd 10. Working through both loops of the next st and the exposed back loop, 11 sc, sc next 11 sts of nose and skip the next 11 exposed back loops, fold work again, working through both loops of next st and the exposed back loops, 42 sc.
Rnd 24: Change to DEN, [6 sc, dec] 8 times. (56)
At this point, the piece will fold, teeth to the inside, gaps between teeth at either end and snout centered above teeth on top.

Rnd 26: (RS) (Short Rnd) 21 sc, sl st in next st, turn. Leave remaining sts unworked for future use. (21)
For this next section, you will be working back and forth, slip stitching at the end of each row, then turning, and skipping the slip stitch, causing the number of stitches in the entire round to slowly decrease on either side of the worked-flat rows. This will create the forehead of the shark and create the shape so the body can be worked straight out from the open mouth.

Stuff snout, head and lower jaw.
Rnds 40-47: Sc evenly around.
Install safety eyes: Mark the holes at the base of the increases on either end of Rnd 30 (after the second WS row of the forehead). Insert safety eyes in marked stitches and attach washers.
Shape cheeks: Mark the inside of the lips in the toothless spaces on either side of the mouth in Rnd 23. Align pins with the first and last sl st of each toothless space. Thread a piece of WHT yarn in the marked st, up from the inside of the mouth to the outside of the mouth, down through the next st on the outside of the mouth and out through the marked st on the inside of the mouth.
Using same yarn, repeat with other marked st on the same cheek. Pull both ends tight (they should both be inside the mouth). This will pinch the cheeks together into a smile. Repeat on other side of mouth.
Attach Tongue: Mark a line 6 sts long inside the mouth in a straight line across the center, starting at either corner of the mouth (depending on where you would like the tongue placed). Using the sewing tail from the Tongue, sew through both layers of the last rnd of the tongue and along the marked line in the mouth.

Leg Attachments
Front Legs
Pin each front leg so that the open edge of the last round is flush on the sides of the body. The open edge will face the body and the toes will face forward.
The top of the shoulder piece should cross the color change of the Belly at Rnd 22 (4 rows from the tip). Front edge of leg should be 3 rounds back from the mouth. Leg will wrap under the body and should point straight down. If needed, adjust until legs are straight down. There should be very few stitches (less than 3) between the front legs on the Belly. Pin the leg in place.
Before sewing first Front Leg, pin second Front Leg exactly mirroring the first. This is easiest to see when looking straight down at the piece from the top.
Sew front legs to body using the sewing tail from the Front Legs. Before closing, finish stuffing each shoulder.
Hind Legs
Hold hind legs with toes facing forward. About 7 rounds behind the Front Legs. Position so that the back edge of the leg, below the knee, is perpendicular to the ground when your shark is standing. The leg should only touch the body above Rnd 18 (above the knee). Thigh will face forward at an angle.
Holding your leg in position, place pins in both the body and the leg where they touch, placing pins every 5 or 6 stitches along your sewing path. Using different color pins makes this much easier.
Check out my video on attaching closed parts for more help. https://hookedbykati.com/easy-peasy-joining-for-round-amigurumi-parts/
You can choose to angle the Hind Legs more dramatically to create a “seated” shark, but his front legs will always be exactly perpendicular to the body because of the nature of the open shoulder.
Before sewing the first Hind Leg, pin the second Hind Leg exactly mirroring the first. This is easiest to see when looking straight down at the piece from the top.
Dorsal Fin
With DEN, ch 2.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6)
Rnd 2: Sc evenly around.
Rnd 3: 2 sc, 2 inc, 2 sc. (8)
Rnd 4: 3 sc, 2 inc, 3 sc. (10)
Rnd 5: 4 sc, 2 inc, 4 sc. (12)
Rnd 6: 5 sc, 2 inc, 5 sc. (14)
Rnd 7: 6 sc, 2 inc, 6 sc. (16)
Rnd 8: 7 sc, 2 inc, 7 sc. (18)
Rnd 9: 8 sc, 2 inc, 8 sc. (20)
Rnd 10: 9 sc, 2 inc, 9 sc. (22)
Rnd 11: Dec, 18 sc, dec. (20)
Bind off leaving long tail for sewing. Press flat with increases along one edge to form a slanted triangle.
Place a pin on the centerline of the top of the body, starting at the same Rnd as the top of the shoulders. Starting at this pin, mark a straight line 10 sts back toward tail.
Using sewing tail of Dorsal Fin, sew through both layers of the last rnd of the Dorsal Fin and attach along the pinned line on the center of the body.
Top Tail Fin
With DEN, ch 2.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6)
Rnd 2: Sc evenly around.
Rnd 3: 2 sc, 2 inc, 2 sc. (8)
Rnd 4: Sc evenly around.

Rnd 15: Dec, 8 sc, dec. (10)
Bind off leaving long tail for sewing. Press flat with decreases along one edge and increases along the other.
Bottom Tail Fin
With DEN, ch 2.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6)
Rnd 2: Sc evenly around.
Rnd 3: 2 sc, 2 inc, 2 sc. (8)
Rnd 4: 3 sc, 2 inc, 3 sc. (10)
Rnd 5: 4 sc, 2 inc, 4 sc. (12)
Rnd 6: 5 sc, 2 inc, 5 sc. (14)
Rnd 7: 6 sc, 2 inc, 6 sc. (16)
Rnd 8: Sc evenly around.
Rnd 9: Dec, 12 sc, dec. (14)
Rnd 10: Dec, 10 sc, dec. (12)
Rnd 11: Dec, 8 sc, dec. (10)
Bind off leaving long tail for sewing. Press flat with decreases along one edge and increases along the other.
Place a pin in the tip of the tail. Count 5 rnds down from tip and place a second pin, centered on top of the tail. Place a third pin 5 rnds from the top directly across from the second pin. For a “tail wagging” effect, slant this line slightly.
With the tip facing backward, away from the body, sew through both layers of the last rnd of the Top Tail Fin, attaching between the second pin and the tip of the tail. Making sure the tip is pointed backward, repeat with Bottom Tail Fin using third pin as a guide. The edges of each tail fin should touch at the tip of the tail.
Tiny Fin
With DEN, ch 2.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6)
Rnd 2: [2 sc, inc] twice. (8)
Rnd 3: Sc evenly around.
Bind off leaving long tail for sewing. Press flat.
Pin a line 4 sts long along the center line of the body, starting 7 rnds back from the Dorsal Fin. Using the sewing tail from the Tiny Fin, sewing through both layers of the last rnd, attach the Tiny Fin along marked line.
Nostrils
With scrap of black, sew two lines on the nose, 2 sts long and 2 sts apart.
Weave in all attachment ends when parts are positioned as desired.
